Erumely Pettathullal, one of the important rituals as part of the annual Makaravilakku festival, will be celebrated at Erumely Sree Dharma Sastha temple on January 11.
The pettathullal, marking the memory of Lord Ayyappa’s victory over demon, Mahishi, will be undertaken by Ambalappuzha and Alangattu teams from Erumely Kochchambalam to Erumely Sree Dharma Sastha temple.
The pettathullal by the Ambalappuzha team, led by Periyor Chandrasekharan Nair, will be taken out from Kochchamblam immediately after sighting the ‘Krishnaparunthu’ on the sky above the temple at 12 noon.
The 300-member Ambalappuzha team, after pasting colours on their face and body, will be led by caparisoned elephants, including the one, which carries the Thidambu of Lord Sastha, from Kochchambalam to Erumely Lord Dharma Sastha temple.
Playing of Panchavadyam, Chendamelam and Sinkarimelam will be other special attractions of the pettathullal.
The procession will be accorded a traditional reception on its arrival at the temple gate by Travancore Devaswom Board president M Rajagopalan Nair and members. The pettathullal will conclude after circumambulating the temple.
The pettathullal by Alangattu team, led by Vijayakumar, will set off its procession soon after witnessing the star on the sky above the temple at 3 PM.
The 500-member team will conclude the rituals after offering worship at Lord Sastha temple at 6 PM.
