HYDERABAD: Here is a good opportunity for those planning to visit the holy abode of Lord Ayyappa at Sabarimala this season and also indulge in some sight seeing in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) is organising a sight seeing-cum-pilgrimage tour to Sabarimala and parts of Tamil Nadu from January 7.
The IRCTC Bharat Darshan Special Train (SZBD-63) will traverse a wide range of pilgrimage centres and tourism destinations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu between January 7 and 13. On its way, the special train will cover Cochin, Chotinakkara, Sabarimala, Kanyakumari, Madurai and Rameswaram.
“The package will suit those who want to visit Sabarimala this season and also visit other temple towns and tourism destinations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Already 50 per cent of the seats are booked for January 7,” said Group General Manager, IRCTC, South Central Zone, V.M.M. Rao, at a press conference here on Wednesday.
By February, IRCTC also plans to introduce the concept of ‘charter coaches’ that will take passengers to a host of existing and new tourism destinations. “Passengers can now rent out entire coaches and head for various tourism destinations. This is being planned to help those who want to travel together. The ticket prices are being planned and we should be ready by February,” Mr. Rao said.
The package cost for Sabarimala and other places of Tamil Nadu and Kerala is Rs. 4,260 per person. This includes to and fro travel, food service and road transportation for sightseeing and hall accommodation. “Hotel reservation is available but travellers will have to pay extra. The package can be reserved online on the website (www.railtourismindia.com) or from counters at Secunderabad, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Rajahmundry, Ongole, Guntur and Gudur.
