Yet another season to start on November 16th
The whole area will be now filled with Ayyapa Saranams.
Meanwhile TDB is finalising the facilities
Work on parking lots at the base camp at Nilackal, barring the final paving, has been completed. Vinaya Kumar, TDB executive engineer, Sabarimala Development Project, told Deccan Herald on Tuesday that drains at the parking lots were also being readied.
Parking facilities at the foothills have been a major concern for pilgrims. Earmarking of new parking lots— with space for about 10,000 vehicles — was taken forward as part of the first phase of the base camp development.
The authorities are in the final stages of putting together the two-km ring road at the base camp.
Sources said a heavy monsoon had significantly hampered infrastructure works this year, leading to a hectic final stage of preparations. “The underpass at Marakkoottam and extension of the flyover from Malikappuram to the annadanam hall are being completed,” Kumar said.
In August this year, the government had sanctioned around Rs 150 crore to upgrade roads leading to Pampa. This apart, the stakeholders are lining up measures to ensure adequate drinking water, safety, medical and sanitation systems ahead of the pilgrimage season that commences on November 16.
