Wild elephant kills a pilgrim on Erumely Pampa traditional forest path

A 19-year-old pilgrim, identified as Ratheesh of Idampakappally Malickalthazhathu House in Perumbavoor, was killed and two others were injured reportedly in an attack by a wild elephant at Valiyanavattom on the Erumely-Pampa traditional forest path leading to Sabarimala on Friday night.

The injured pilgrims Unni and Arun from Perumbavoor, have been admitted to the  Pampa Amrita Hospital. According to hospital sources, the survived pilgrims stated that the elephant had attacked them while they reached Valiyanavattom around 8 p.m. Ratheesh was crushed to death on the spot.

The elephant monitoring squad of the Forest Department rushed to the spot on hearing the sound and took all of them to the Amrita Hospital where Ratheesh was declared dead, later.

Unni and Arun are out of danger as per hospital source.
