‘Chithira Attavisesham’, the birth anniversary of Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the former head of the Travancore royal family, was celebrated at the Lord Ayyappa temple on Saturday.
Sahasrakalasam and Kalabhabhishekam were the special rituals held as part of the celebrations. Both the rituals were conducted under the leadership of Thantri Kandararu Maheswararu during the Uchcha pooja.
As part of Sahasrakalasam, Thantri Maheswararu conducted kalasabhishekam on the idol of Lord Ayyappa. In connection with Kalabhabhishekam, the thantri performed the kalabhakalasa pooja at Mandapam at 11.30 am and the ritual was concluded with Kalabhabhishekam on the idol of the Lord.
Udaysthamana pooja, Padi pooja and Pushpabhishekam were the other rituals held at the temple. The temple was closed in the evening after Athazha pooja and Harivarasanam.
The hill shrine of Lord Ayyappa will be reopened on November 15 evening for the two-month long annual Mandalam-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season.
The installation ceremony of new Sabarimala melsanthi P N Narayanan Nampoothiri by Thantri Maheswararu by conducting kalasabhishekam on the new melsanthi will be held at the Sopanam at 7 pm on November 15.
