Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has made arrangements to make available quality drinking water to pilgrims to the hill shrine of Sabarimala this season, a TDB press release here said.
The TDB had invited offers from different companies in the country for the distribution of drinking water and chose one of the firms with the approval of the High Court.
Under the contract, the company also would have to dispose plastic bottles after use. The company would sell their brand of drinking water at concessional rates at Pampa and Sabarimala.
The TDB took the step as there had been complaints about the quality of packaged drinking water distributed at Pampa and Sabarimala during the last few seasons.
There was also no uniformity in the price and quality of drinking water sold in shops and the disposal of bottles had caused environmental problems.
The High Court had directed the TDB to ensure that all plastic bottles were removed from the premises of the hill shrine and Pampa after use by the company which took the contract.
